Email update from OXFAM 3/15/10:

My team visited this location today. The situation did not appear as dire as suggested in the email. While the building has not sustained any structural damage (not even superficial cracks) the director has insisted on the children sleeping outside at night, resulting in water damage to mattresses.

Oxfam Quebec will:
-Provide 20 mattresses for the childeren, on the condition that they are used inside
-Provide Aquatabs (or equivalent) to allow the cistern water to be used for drinking. We will advise staff on correct use.
-Arrange for a Haitian social worker to speak with the director, staff and children to identify other needs
-Provide some food, in the form of a limited quantity of household food kits

We will also try to arrange for a structural engineer to assure the director that the building is safe, and that the childeren do not have to sleep outside.
