The men’s shelter located at 1490 St-Antoine Street West is Welcome Hall Mission’s busiest location. Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the Men’s Mission has grown from 65 beds in 2000 to 100 beds in 2002 and 175 beds in 2003.
As there is a recognized need to increase shelter capacity in Montreal for a growing number of homeless men, the Macaulay Pavilion, home to the Men’s Mission since 1965, has undergone much needed renovations. Thanks to funding from the Government of Canada the building has been outfitted with additional showers, restrooms and dorms.
Also, a first in Montreal, a wheelchair accessible dorm was created for those with reduced mobility, taking into account the aging homeless population.
