Back to School with our "Heads Held High"

Every year, as school is just around the corner, families with children are busy with back-to-school preparations. While parents are struggling with their own worries, children's wishes are often overlooked. Most kids we help are living in tough neighbourhoods, while others are from low-income families that can't afford to buy all the food ans supplies they need. It may seem like there is little that we can do, but we try!

This past August Touche, the Allouettes mascot, joined almost 2000 kids at the Maison in support of our 'Heads Held High' back-to-school program. We providedfood for nutritious lunches, as well as clothing, shoes, and basic school supplies auch as pencils, books, paper and binders. Touche amused the kids, took pictures, gave out back-to-school gifts and candies, and thrilled all the children who asked for a hug.

Our goal is to give disadvantaged children a less stressful back-to-school period that will prepare them for better grades, and reduce the dropout rate. We want the children to feel safe and comfortable with their peers, and to encourage them to grow in self-confidence and knowledge.
