Front Office Receptionist
Location: San Jose Distribution Center
Supports: Administrative Assistant
Hours:
Flexible, 4 + hours per work week, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday
Purpose:
Office Manager is seeking a volunteer who can help with administrative tasks. Current need is to support answering phones, greeting visitors and support general office projects. Fun and meaningful environment!
Qualifications:
Friendly, outgoing, people person! Prior office experience a big plus.

Agency Relations Monitor
Location: San Carlos Distribution Center
Supports: Agency Relations Manager
Hours:
Flexible (monitoring a site takes from .5 to 2 hours depending upon type of agency)
Purpose:
Assist the Agency Relations Manager in inspecting the cooking, storage and food preparation areas of our partnering agencies facilities. After some basic training in Food Bank policy and documentation, you will schedule and perform monitors independently.
Qualifications:
A background in food preparation, nutrition or food safety is an asset. Enjoy working with diverse groups of people.

Food Connection Hotline Operator
Location: San Jose Distribution Center
Supports: Food Connection
Hours:
Must be willing to commit to 1 shift per week for a period of not less than 2 months. Shifts are Monday - Friday, 9am - 12pm & 1:30pm - 4:30pm.
Purpose:
To staff the phone lines for Food Connection (our food referral hotline).

Warehouse Activities:
The minimum age to volunteer is 14 years old. Youth between the ages of 14 - 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 years of age or older. Any youth under the age of 18 must have a signed Parent Permission Form. All volunteers must sign our Volunteer Agreement. Please wear close-toed shoes and long pants.

Food Sorting
Individual and group sorting opportunities are available in both
counties.
Volunteers 14 years of age and older are needed to sort food at our warehouses. Volunteers inspect and categorize donated food products, label food packages and repackage food items donated by individuals and food companies. Training is provided at the beginning of each shift.
Please review our requirements.
Team Leader:
Opportunities available in both counties. Provide orientation and manage food sorting projects during evening and weekend food sorting shifts. A great way to develop your leadership and presentation skills.
Requirements: Friendly, outgoing, energetic individuals who would like to donate three hours per shift to help supervise our various food sorting projects.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY
Location: San Jose Distribution Site

Group and individual food sorting opportunities are scheduled in two to three hour shifts. They begin at 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. or noon and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Group and individual food sorting opportunities are available on selected Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. (See schedule below for days, dates and times of sorts.)
Please feel free to inquire about the availability of other dates and times that would be more convenient for your group. Please review our requirements.

November 22nd, Thanksgiving Day
The Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot exists to benefit local charities. These charities help valley families meet their most basic needs, for health, hope, and a home.
Volunteers are needed! Start the holidays by helping others at the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age.
Volunteer times are from 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon.

Assist in educating the community with facts on nutrition, resources, health and hunger.
Hotline Operator
In Santa Clara County only, volunteers receive phone calls on our Food Connection hotline and direct callers to food assistance programs in the community. Bilingual abilities are helpful.
Actors
Volunteers with a flair for the dramatic are needed to act in instructional videos for the Nutrition Program. Volunteers are needed on an on-call basis.
Calling all Performers! WANTED: YOUR TALENT!
We have two upcoming volunteer appreciation events and are seeking entertainment for our awesome volunteers. Do you sing or act? Perform magical tricks, are part of a theatre group, band, etc., WE NEED YOU!
Location is our San Jose Distribution Center - The dates and times are as follows:
Friday, June 1st 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. – 300+ mostly seniors who help at our weekly Brown Bag Food Distribution Program (they help provide food to over 5,000 seniors every week.)
Friday, June 29th 12 to 3:00 p.m. – 175+ who are a part of our Partners in Need volunteer program (volunteer weekly and receive food assistance) and our regular daytime volunteers who help in the office, inventory, lead food sorts and much more.
If you or your group can provide entertainment during any of these dates and enjoy sharing your talent with others, please call Kris Sulpizio, Associate Director of Volunteer Services (408) 694-0011 to discuss details.
Where: Both Second Harvest Food Bank locations.
When: Sorting opportunities run three hours and are generally two to four times per month in the evenings and on Saturdays.
Commitment: Some volunteer team leaders participate several times a month; others are able to volunteer as infrequently as once every few months.
Checkout:
Available in our San Carlos distribution site. Help member agencies retrieve, verify and record food orders. Daytime shifts are available Tuesday through Thursday and are two to three hours in length. Minimum six-month commitment

Urgent Opportunities:
Accounting Needs
Do you have accounting experience? Do you have experience working with cash receipting process? Are you available during our Holiday Food and Fund Drive (November and December) to help our Accounting staff with processing donations? Tasks include photocopying checks, readying donations for deposit.
Help is needed most Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Shift times can be as infrequent as one, four-hour shift per week to as much time as you have to offer.
