Major Cyclone Hits Bangladesh: Immediate Assistance Needed
A devastating cyclone has hit the coast of Bangladesh. Over 270,000 houses have been destroyed. Thousands of people have been killed. An estimated three million people have been affected. The scale of the damage is enormous, and we need your help to mount a major response.
Tidal surges swept away scores of people. Now, hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshis are returning to their homes to find complete ruin: crops are damaged, houses are gone, and there are increasing water and sanitation concerns.
Oxfam now has teams on the ground. The immediate focus will be helping more than 80,000 people in the hardest-hit districts meet their basic needs for food, water, shelter, and sanitation. Long-term, we'll be helping people rebuild what they’ve lost and return to their livelihoods, while strengthening their ability to stand firm against future disasters.
