About Mutual Aid
The Salt Lake Valley COVID-19 Mutual Aid Group is a collective of organizers formed to facilitate connections across the Salt Lake valley between individuals in need of support due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and individuals offering support to their community. We are working to provide assistance severely impacted by the virus by facilitating transport and provision of basic needs like groceries, prescriptions, and medical supplies. We are acting alongside those globally to show that our communities take care of each other. We are not a non-profit. We are a network of volunteers. Because of this, every dollar raised is distributed back into the community.
With the worsening of the COVID-19 outbreak in Salt Lake City, many vulnerable members of our community need to self-quarantine and avoid public places to reduce the risk of contracting the virus, creating barriers to basic needs. In addition, many basic medical supplies these populations rely on in everyday life are now scarce. We will prioritize the needs of those who are most physically and economically vulnerable: people who are chronically ill and/or immunocompromised, undocumented, disabled, elderly, houseless, BIPOC, queer and trans people, and sex workers.
We are providing:
-Grocery, prescription and household supply deliveries. For those unable to afford groceries/supplies, we will cover the cost up to $50.
-Direct cash assistance (up to $50) to undocumented and precarious workers who are bearing the economic brunt of this crisis.
Organizing Team
At its core, Mutual Aid is about actively practicing community. If you help your neighbor, you are doing Mutual Aid work. The heart of Salt Lake Mutual Aid is our network of hundreds of volunteers who are making deliveries, offering social support and providing resources. The organizing team is here to facilitate this work and . We are regular folks in Salt Lake Valley who have been active in various organizing campaigns, mutual aid work, and more importantly, in community with each other. We are a collective of volunteers, not a non-profit. That means no overhead, every dollar is going towards groceries, supplies, and direct support.
