Notes
Fighting Wage Theft
Wage theft is rampant in industries with low-wage immigrant workers. Although The Fair Labor Division of the Office of the Attorney General in Massachusetts processes thousands of wage theft cases annually, the A.G. herself confirms that the office is overwhelmed and relies on worker centers like MWC-Casa to help prioritize cases and provide support. Wage theft is exacerbated by companies who utilize law-breaking sub-contractors in low-wage industries like landscaping, construction, cleaning, and restaurants. These employers avoid legal responsibility for wage theft by hiding behind the subcontractors who have the formal legal responsibility but against whom workers are unable to collect.
[also MUTUAL AID]
In response to the Coronavirus Pandemic, we have begun Canasta Solidaria (Solidarity Basket).
Throughout the summer, we gave culturally appropriate groceries to over 500 families in Framingham & Milford. During early fall, we've taken a break to find a new location and more funding. Canasta restarted in Milford on October 24th and will restart in Framingham on November 21st.
We estimate that this will cost about $10,000 every time we distribute. With your support, we can make that happen! Thank you to all who have already donated. There are two ways to donate:
