Update release from the LCMS World Relief and Humac Care
website at:
http://www.lcms.org/pages/internal.asp?NavID=11428
Anyone who is in need of recovery assistance is asked to
contact Rev. Dave Buss at 225-205-1639. He is currently
in Enterprise, Alabama, with a response team from New
Orleans. A team of 7 arrived last night equipped with a
Bobcat, ATV, and 7 chain saws. This morning they helped
secure Christ The King Lutheran Church (CTK) which is
located two blocks from the high school that has been
featured on the news. They have moved to the city's
staging area to join other volunteers. If you would like
to join them please contact them at the above number.
All members of CTK have been contacted by Pastor Endrihs.
They are safe and their homes (even those in the most
affected areas) did not suffer any major damage. The
church had a small portion of its metal roof peeled away,
some vinyl siding removed, and one window broken. We will
share any other updates as we hear them. Please continue to
pray for the pastor and members of Christ The King and for
those who are answer the call to share the love we have
received from Jesus Christ to those in need.
============================================
The local LCMS congregation, Christ the King, suffered some
damage, but is serving as a staging area for disaster relief
teams headed by Rev. Dave Buss, Southern District disaster
relief coordinator. The church is near the high school and
the hospital. A volunteer team from Camp Restore (New Orleans)
arrived Friday morning with Rev. Buss, and is assessing the
situation to determine how the existing needs can be met. Your
prayers and financial contributions will help this effort. The
need for further volunteer assistance is being evaluated.
Rev. Glenn Merritt, LCMS director of disaster response, is in
contact with Southern District President Kurt Schultz, and has
offered the full assistance of LCMS World Relief and Human Care
to the Southern District, affected congregations and individuals
as needs are determined.
