6/20: Hands On USA has moved on. Darius and the folks that started the team
are addressing worldwide disasters. When we catch up to them and find out what
they are doing, we'll make an entry for their new operation.
For now, if you're looking for the team that's in Biloxi doing construction,
look for the facility/organization listed as "Hands On Network". They took
off where Hands On USA left off in Biloxi. Good job Darius!! Terra (per email from Hands On)
If you are looking for Darius or the folks that started Hands On USA, contact them via the above numbers.

I just wanted to chime in with a little personal experience. I have been itching to do my part with the Katrina/Rita relief effort ever since it happened. I originally checked in with my local Red Cross facility, but it quickly became clear that I would have to go through a bit of red tape before I would be able to actually get down south and do some good. Thankfully, this past weekend after doing some scrolling through all the posts on Craigslist I came across a little organization called Hands On USA. As soon as I found their website I knew I had hit the jackpot. These people got their feet wet helping the recent tsunami victims. They are serious about doing everything I had hoped to do--getting down and dirty and doing their part to see that as many folks as possible that actually wanted help immmediately could begin working to assist the thousands of people down here that are in need. I was amazed when I called and a live human being actually picked up the phone yesterday. I then
jumped in my truck and drove the eight hours to Biloxi MS. As soon as I arrived I was impressed with the level of friendliness and organization that I found. We are currently in an excellent facility with amenities that are better than I ever dreamed of. If you love a camping type atmosphere and meeting amazing folks from all over the world, this is where you need to be. My first day on the job I was able to assist a medical unit with administering over 150 Tetanus/Diptheria vaccines. The medical unit I was working with will have received a new MASH unit delivered from and soon to be built by the German military. One of the coolest fellas I've met so far is orinally from London. The atmosphere is both unique and the extent of the devastation is overwhelming. One of the greatest needs in this area is debris and more specifically tree clearing and the crews Hand On mobilizes daily are becoming experts at offering their services to anyone who needs it, free of charge. I have met so
many people of all shapes and sizes...Yankees, Rednecks, Treehuggers, Right-Wingers, Left-Wingers, Democrats, Republicans, and every ethnicity you can imagine all working together to help folks in their hour of need. This is unquestionably where it's at (no strings attached).
