FROM THE WEBSITE:
Hope Goldman Meyer was like many other charitable New
Orleanians, doing what she could to make her city a
better place to live. After volunteering with the
Katrina Krewe she was energized to do more. The
problem was, she had trouble matching her volunteer
interests with available opportunities in the newspaper.
This problem yielded a solution: FIXNOLA.ORG. Meyer,
with the help of Peter A. Mayer Advertising, has developed
a site where locals can go to find volunteer projects
that both draw their interest and fit their schedule.
Utilizing the extensive database of volunteermatch.org,
this site provides volunteer listings exclusive to the
New Orleans area, allowing locals to conveniently find
ways that they can make a difference in the city they
love.
All over New Orleans, we're pitching in. We're pitching
in because we care about our city. We're pitching in
because we want to help our fellow New Orleanians.
We're pitching in because we know if we want a better
New Orleans, we have to be the ones to improve it.
Though our intentions might be in the right place,
sometimes finding a project that lights our altruistic
fire can be difficult. That's why FIXNOLA.ORG was
created.
FIXNOLA.ORG is a website designed to match civic-minded
New Orleanians with volunteer opportunities throughout
the city. With a database powered by VolunteerMatch and
exclusively dedicated to projects in the Greater New
Orleans area, you can quickly search hundreds of postings
to find the opportunities that match both your interests
and your schedule. If you have an extra couple hours on a
Saturday, put down the remote and pick up a rake or a
hammer—or a miniature schnauzer—whatever interests you.
Because that's what this website is all about: helping you
help New Orleans any way you can.
Finding an opportunity to volunteer
The key to volunteering is finding something that you're
passionate about. If you're engaged in the project you're
donating your time to, you're more likely to make
volunteering a regular part of your life. If you like
working with your hands, maybe you'd be interested in
building projects. If you're concerned about education,
you might spend a couple of hours a week tutoring a child.
Figuring out what you want to do is the hard part—the rest
is only a few clicks away. Just select the category in the
top left corner, scan the listings throughout New Orleans
that match your interests, contact the organization you
want to help, and you're on your way towards helping our
city.
Posting an opportunity to volunteer
If you're a nonprofit organization looking for volunteers in
the New Orleans area, simply visit volunteermatch.org and
post your opportunity there. Your listing, in addition to
being available to volunteermatch.com's national audience,
will automatically be listed in the appropriate section of
FIXNOLA.ORG.
