FROM THE WEBSITE:
Making Change for Katrina is a national citizen-driven
fundraising campaign to collect spare change to benefit
the victims of the Gulf Coast hurricanes. The recipient
is Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that
builds simple, decent housing for people in need.
In American homes today, there is more than $10 billion
dollars in spare change lying around. That's rightthe
change sitting in your sock drawer adds up to quite a
bit! If we collect just 1% of America's loose change,
we can raise over $100 million to build homes for those
who lost everything.
We urge you to gather your spare changewhether under the
depths of the couch cushion, in that glass jar or in your
overcoat pocketsand take it to the nearest Coinstar Center
to donate. It's simple. We'll tell you how and where. Spare
change may not seem like much, but together it means a lot.
How to Give:
It's easy - just gather your spare pennies, nickels, and
other coins and take them to your nearest Coinstar Center
(for help finding a Coinstar Center near you, click on our
Coinstar Zip Code Finder!)
Anyone can donate their spare change using one of the more
than 12,000 Coinstar Centers found in supermarkets nationwide.
At the Coinstar Center:
Choose the "donate" option from the onscreen menu
Select "Making Change for Katrina" as the charity of choice
Pour in your coins
Take the tax-deductible receipt

How to Become Involved
Everyone can make a difference! The best way to become
involved in Making Change is to spread the word - to your
friends, neighbors, co-workers, relatives - the more coins
we collect, the more change we make!
There are several ways you can encourage your community to
get involved: organize a coin drive, place coin jars in your
school, home, or workplace, distribute the Making Change for
Katrina posterjoin the movement!
Download our involvement kits which contain ideas and tools
to help you spread the word:

Also, invite your family and friends to visit the Making
Change trailer when it comes to your local Lowe's or CVS
store.
It doesn't matter what age you are or where you live - it's what
you do that counts! And remember, it's never too late to make
change for Gulf Coast victims!
Education:
We are proud to be working with Discovery Education (The
Discovery Channel), to bring Making Change for Katrina to
schools. Discovery Education has created curriculum programs
on hurricanes (see below), which you can use in your very
own classroom.
