UPDATE/VOAD MEETING NOTES - 5/22/07
http://www.ksvoad.org/pdf/5_22_2007%20VOAD%20NOTES.pdf:
Bryan Walker:
Still diverting donations to the KS Food Bank in Wichita
to avoid overwhelm. KS Food Bank will be available for
long term needs and supply food for as long as it takes.
In addition to, rakes and wheelbarrows are being sent from
KS City.
----------------------------------------------------------
From the KS FOOD BANK website:
In addition to donations of money, a limited amount of
supplies is being sought for the victims of last weekend's
tornadoes.
Bath towels, for example, are needed by people even if
they're staying with relatives, said Monique Garcia, a
volunteer working with the Salvation Army in Haviland.
Denture cleaner is another item that has been requested by
the older population of Greensburg than, say, the diapers
that have already been donated, she said.
But kind-hearted people should keep in mind that the
population of Greensburg is small, and if one person
donates a case of denture cleaner, that will probably
do it, said Brian Walker of the Kansas Food Bank, which
is serving as a drop-off site for the items. People can
call ahead before donating items to be sure they are
still needed, Walker said. The phone number is:
316-265-4421.
The Food Bank, 1919 E. Douglas in Wichita, is storing the
goods and sending them out as they're needed, controlling
the amount that is delivered to Haviland, where storage
space is limited, Walker said.
"That eliminates a disaster within a disaster," he said.
No clothing is being accepted for donation. Deliveries can
be made to the Food Bank from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. through
Saturday. If you want to take something out Sunday, call
first.
Here is the list of needed items. They should be new, not used.
? Bath towels
? Bedding
? Pillows
? Laundry detergent
? Dog and cat food
? Denture cleaner
? Canes
