Call from Larry Bassett/Pastor - Appointed Faith-based VOAD
Coordinator - 5/18/07:

Red Cross is NOT pulling out. They're Command Center will
remain at the gym and on 5/17/07 they closed the Red Cross
Haviland High School shelter and moved evauess to the
Grammer School gym in Mullinville. There are a total of 43
evacuee's there now. They are being fed lunch and dinner.

UMC in Mulinville will be receiving multiple retail racks
and 1000 hangers for clothing. This will free up their
Sunday School rooms for Volunteer Housing and they expect
over the next weeks to have room enough for 30 plus volunteers
to be housed. They will be able to utilize the gym showers
for volunteers.

Tyson Chicken pulled out this week.

Mon. 5/21 is the next VOAD meeting.

Effective 5/18 they've removed about 8000 loads of debris.

Despite the news media, they DO in fact have more than enough
heavy equipment and the National Guard has done a fabulous job.

I referred Pastor Bassett to Church of Christ to coordinate
their needs with Donna Mosshart for diapers and pajamas. On 5/17
she agreed to share whatever their needs were when I spoke with
her on the phone.

I will check back in a week.

Via call to Lucille Way at UMC/Mullinville, KS:

For Long-Term Recovery Volunteer purposes they NEED:

Porta-potties
Portable showers would be a plus

Monetary donations are best as a PRIORITY so
items can be purchased locally to fill specific
on demand needs.

They are using one Sunday School room as a nursery.

They have a 'baby room' with supplies and infant/toddler
clothing, food, toys, etc. that Greensburg residents can
'shop' in.
