About this facility
- Mission
- Plenty's Mission is to assist in the protection, stewardship, and sharing of the world's resources to promote the well being of the communities and environment we share. To pursue its mission Plenty will: Facilitate activities to share community experience across cultural and organizational barriers and to foster collaboration with groups and individuals who share a similar vision. Assist communities in the application of appropriate and/or alternative technologies to encourage village self-sufficiency. Such technologies may include alternative power generation, communications, and micro enterprise initiatives. Support the establishment of medical programs that encourage local control and responsibility for community health. Such solutions may include Primary Health Care training, Midwifery training, and Public Health initiatives. Assist communities in the development and maintenance of quality water systems. Advance nutritional programs based on the introduction, instruction, preparation and the creation of environmentally sound and sustainable soy and vegetable based diets.

Notes
Please check the Plenty Blog for updates on Plenty's response to the disastrous earthquake in Haiti. So far we have primarily been supporting grassroots organizations that were already on the ground when the earthquake struck. There are more than 10,000 NGOs now at work in Haiti, up from 4,000 before the earthquake. While we are enlisting medical volunteers with disaster response experience to fill particular needs as expressed by the grassroots organizations we are connected with, we will probably not be sending a lot of volunteers any time soon. We'd rather see Haitians doing as much of the recovery work as possible. Plenty will continue to contribute targeted funding and help in the solicitation of needed supplies and equipment while we closely monitor the recovery effort as an active member of several networks engaged in long-term planning. We'll keep you posted.
