NEWS:7/31/10: Angie ready for football with help of volunteers
By Peter Silas Pasqua
The Daily News
With the help of the local community, Angie Junior High will be able to field a football team this year.
Without mandated physicals, it wouldn’t be possible and that is when community leaders stepped in to make sure that wouldn’t happen.
Rev. Elder Liddell of Helping Oppressed People Emerge Missions, was conducting a mentoring program at the school when he was informed the school was in need by principal Randy Branch.
“We were just sitting down one day and he said he didn’t know if he was going to have enough for the football team this year because none of the kids had any insurance and they weren’t able to get a bus to take them to get their physicals,” Liddell said.
Liddell told Branch he would contact Dr. Richard Friend of LSU Health Sciences Center. A meeting was set up and physicals were provided during the school’s prep day July 31.
Friend said checkups are something that LSU Rural Family Medicine Residency provides.
“Some kids in rural communities don’t have doctors and it is hard for their parents to get transportation sometimes, so we try to provide a community service through the residency program,” Friend said. “Whatever we have the resources to do.”
Friend’s staff also tried to link players up with their clinic if they did not have a physician.
“We do it as community outreach but it is also part of their sports medicine curriculum in training as family doctors,” Friend said.

As of 4/22/10: H.O.P.E. Missions has help 98 famiilies in the surrounding Washington Parish areas with supplies: building materials, furniture, assitance with permanent housing, family counseling, hurricane preparation, etc, also H.O.P.E. Missions has help other organizations as well as churches, schools. H.O.P.E. Missions will continue to serve the Washington Parish community, we have created a building fund, looking to build or purchase a building for storage space to house the supplies that we receive from our donors, H.O.P.E. Missions goal is to raise $50,000.00 for this project and the land has been purchase, this storage space will also house a food bank and other resources that will be beneficial to this rural community, We H.O.P.E. that you will partner with us by donating and or a finanical donation to reach H.O.P.E. Missions goal. H.O.P.E. Missions has grown tremendous since Hurricane Katrina/Rita, some may see this as a problem, its a good problem to have, when you see kids and parents getting excited about school and finding jobs and want to succeed in life, when people look to succeed it turns into success, kids making good grades now that they have a bed to sleep on verses the floor. This is the results when people have hope, we like to, once again to thank all of our donors for these results, we could not have done it without you.
4/8/10:The geographic location for these supplies is Washington Parish , US State of Louisiana. Our parish seat is Franklinton. In 2000 its population was 43,926. On August 29th , 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit this city with winds of 125mph downing tress and power lines. Many buildings in Washington Parish received damage from falling trees and many were destroyed. Most of the houses, businesses, and other buildings suffered roof damage from the storms ferocious winds. The ongoing and growing issue is that these damages were not repaired due to lack of funding and resources and the ensuing problem has compounded into deferred maintenance issue over the pass 4.5 years leaving these buildings unable to meet building codes and, in some cases, not repairable. In those cases the entire building, and or trailer, will have to be replace.
The median income for a household in the parish is approximately $24,264 and the median income for a family is approximately $29,480. The per capita income for the parish is $12,915.24, 70% of the population is below the poverty line.
5/8/09 H.O.P.E. Missions wrote this Letter to Brain Boyle/FEMA Individual Assistance Section Chief: H.O.P.E. Missions Inc, hereby requests to participate in the Mobile Home Donation Program and donation of 13 FEMA mobile homes and Park Models for use by our organization to provide housing assistance to disaster victims from FEMA (1603 OR 1607) (DR LA.) We have submitted proof of eligibility as a Non-Profit Charitable Organization in the form of certification as define by IRC 501(C)(3). We have also included Parish approval to place mobile homes and Park models. we here agree to obtain and maitain hazard insurance and flood insurance, if necessary. we will sent a list of disaster victims and their FEMA registration ID numbers for your review of eligibity.
We had (3) three clients pass away(Die) waiting on their Mobile homes and one client is about to move in her New Mobile home and one that is Pending lack of funds and the rest lost to paper work or fail to meet the deadline, I believe the deadline should been extended we are talking about people becoming homeless here. We still need housing here, people sleeping in cars, sheds, tents.
05/08: We would like to Thank Karen Iwicki and the Katrina Angels for their donated supplies. This gave H.O.P.E. Missions the opportunity to help numerous families in the Washington Parish areas. The situation here goes beyond Hurricane Katrina and Rita. What these storms did was open up the eye of the poverty situation we have in Washington Parish. A difference can be made and the NEED is still great, we have already made a difference in one family life, this family was homeless and living in their vehicle. H.O.P.E. Missions was able to put them back in their home. We are indebted to those for the guidance and help we have been provided in the development of our project. I'm reminded of what the Bible says in Proverbs 17:22. Should you require any information or questions in regards to our project, Please feel free to contact H.O.P.E. Missions Inc. Thank You and God Bless. Rev. Liddell.
8/07: Kathleen Johnson (Waveland Citizens Fund) visited this site today (8/6/07). There is very little hurricane damage, but a LOT of inappropriate poverty, and she encourages us to send as much as we can to Angie Louisiana. KJ is suggesting that Angie have more than one donation distribution site.

10/30/07: Thanks to Terra and her team, we were Bless with some Puppet Kits this past summer, and we were Bless to give Franklinton Jr High School one. We were invited today to attend the puppet show that these students created. It was great to see the enthusiasm the students had and to learn that they worked on this project for weeks. It was a moment, you had to be there to get the full picture. How this puppet kit brought out their hidden skills. The student had one problem with the kits, They would like to have more Furniture/Animals for the puppet show. Given the Resources and Opportunity our young people can enhance their empowerment. The Resources they can used are Books: Art/Artist Books; Where The Red Fern Grows - Author Wilson Rawls; Maniac Magee - Author Jerry Spinelli.
