We have completed our 5th day of deployment in response to the bridge
tragedy at the University of Minnesota. Please accept the following brief
report and update regarding these efforts:
August 1-2, 2007: Provided psychological first aid and trauma-response
in-synchrony and in-turn with biomedical care at Fairview University
Emergency Department (see 8/2/07 report #1; 3 team members deployed)
August 2, 2007: Provided psychological first aid and support to families of
the missing through mobile Family-Center site (see 8/2/07 report #2; 6 team
members deployed)
August 3, 2007: On-call status; Coordinated weekend efforts of MRC Mental
Health Crisis Response Team with Incident Command.
August 4, 2007: Deployed to relocated Red Cross and Family Center site.
Coordinated two sequential groups of MRC Mental Health Crisis Response Team
members (5 team members in first group; 6 team members in second group) to
conduct 1:1 interventions and facilitate group defusings with Red Cross
Mental Health workers, Minneapolis Police Department Chaplaincy, Salvation
Army, and Hennepin County Mental Health.
August 5, 2007: Deployed back to Red Cross and Family Center site.
Coordinated two additional/sequential groups of MRC Mental Health Crisis
Response Team members (6 team members per team) to conduct 1:1
interventions and facilitate group defusings with aforementioned care
groups.
Current plans for August 6, 2007: Two groups of MRC Mental Health Crisis
Response Team members will continue 8/4-8/5 efforts. Each team will include
3 team members. On-call status for first-responders and
search/rescue/recovery personnel at bridge site; these efforts (should our
assistance be needed/requested) will be coordinated with Metro CISM and
Minneapolis PD/Chaplaincy.
Current plans for August 7-10, 2007: Continue two-team/group-per-day
format/sequence in 1:1's and defusings with Red Cross/Family Center Site.
We have coordinated our MRC Mental Health Crisis Team members by day/time
availability throughout the week. If further services or assistance are
requested by you or Incident Command beyond that which we are already
doing, our group is ready to deploy and continue their effort(s) in this
very important work.
