Notes
75% of residents completing the Arlington Life Shelter 9
week program have prepared a budget and moved into permanent
housing.
100% of homeless children are enrolled in day care or school
within 72 hours and receive all required immunizations within
two weeks.
85% of children who are in the Shelter program two or more
weeks show a 50% decrease in discipline problems.
95% of residents are linked with community services that can
assist them in their journey to long-term self-sufficiency.
85% of all residents graduating from the Arlington Life Shelter
Program will have completed 36 hours of skilled training.
75% of residents without a high school diploma or GED receive
counseling on alternative training programs.
75% of school-age children receive 8-10 hours of individual
tutoring and computer instruction a week.
We begin this 2oth Anniversary year with hope and confidence
that the Arlington Life Shelter’s volunteers and staff members
can partner once again with our residents to help them return
to lives of self-sufficiency.
Thanks to the generosity of our community donors, Arlington
Life Shelter impacted the lives of nearly 1,400 homeless men
women and children during 2006, helping young mothers battle
alcoholism and depression; children enjoy warm meals and shoes
that fit; and fathers redevelop a sense of pride in themselves
as the family breadwinner.
In the year ahead, the agency sees itself continuing to work
with more and more young families as they face the economy's
increasing cost for transportaion and housing. Babies and
young children born to drug-addicted mothers pose a challenge
that threatens to overwhelm the agency's children's services
program. Last year ALS provided services for 351 children -
almost half of which were age 5 and under.
This year the Board of Directors will be closely examining the
long-term impact of agency services on the residents as well
as planning for the agency’s future.
We invite you to join us on the journey of shepherding homeless
men, women and children towards a lifestyle of self-sufficiency.
