Port San Antonio and Its Role in the Upcoming Weather Events:
Port San Antonio has been designated as the Regional Evacuee
Reception Center by the State of Texas and we are the site for
the Alamo Regional Command Center. The Command Center will be
headquartered in Building 1537. The primary emergency
response agencies for the state, county, city and FEMA
will all be located here.
Port San Antonio’s role is different than in the past; we
will not be sheltering evacuees here. Instead, we will
receive evacuees by buses and privately owned vehicles here.
The vehicles will then be disbursed to the appropriate
shelters around the city.
What does this means for the personnel of tenants of Port
San Antonio?
First, there will immediately be more vehicular activity.
120 hours before the hurricane-type weather arrives on the
Texas coast, representatives of the emergency agencies will
establish offices in Building 1537
48 hours before the forecasted landfall, the coastal cities
will begin their evacuation and we will have vehicles arriving
here within several hours.
All employees working at the Port are encouraged to use only the
36th Street entrance to come to work. When exiting the Port 36th
Street and General Hudnell may be used. Please advise visitors
and vendors of this information.
All employees who work here are asked to place a sign, at least
51/2 x 81/2, stating where they work to ensure quick access to
their workplace. Police will be stationed at the entrances.
The San Antonio Police Department will control the entrances and
exits to and from the Port. All employees and vendors will be
able to come and go as safety permits.
The Incident Command Center will be in regular communication with
the media to alert the area to important updates. As information
affecting the Port becomes available we will post new information
on the website. Naturally, the best sources of current emergency
communication will come from local broadcasts.
