All MDS projects will close for Christmas break from December
15, 2007 - January 6, 2008 except for Johnson Bayou RV project
which closes on December 20, 2007.
The MDS projects in Greensburg , Mobile and New Orleans have
openings for the first two weeks of December but aside from
that, all projects are currently full until March.
Occasionally there are cancellations. If you would like to be
called about volunteer needs on short-notice (1-3 weeks),

Greensburg , KS
Disaster Description:
An F5 tornado tore through Greensburg, KS, a small southwestern
Kansas town on Friday May 4, 2007. The tornado wiped out over
95% of homes and ten people died as a result of the tornadoes.
The tornado was estimated to be 1.7 miles in width and traveled
for nearly 22 miles with winds reaching over 200 miles per hour.
Within hours, teams from Mennonite Disaster Service?s Kansas Unit
were in the area doing cleanup.
MDS has set up operations for a project at the Greensburg Mennonite
Church. Greensburg has a small Mennonite community. to begin the
physical work of rebuilding the community.
Volunteer Status: If you can do electrical, plumbing or roofing
work along with general building skills you are needed in
Greensburg. If you are willing to work alongside others, you are
still needed in Greensburg. You can volunteer for a day, two days,
a week or more.
The MDS Greensburg site can house eight people or more.
