Notes
Community Food Bank (CFB) serves as the center of a vast network of agencies located throughout Fresno, Madera, and Kings counties. These agencies are food pantries, residential shelters, community kitchens, adult and child day care centers, and so much more! Community Food Bank is involved in the solicitation, acquisition, warehousing and distribution of the food that these agencies acquire and serve to those in need. Currently, CFB has 150 member agencies. For information about becoming a member agency and qualifications click here.
Community Food Bank began in May of 1992, with the name Food Opportunities Organization and Distribution, Inc. (or, FOOD, Inc.). It was formed from through the efforts of a steering committee of the United Way. In 1994, FOOD Inc. became the local management agency for the USDA Emergency Assistance Food Program (EFAP). CFB currently manages 50 EFAP sites for Fresno County. In 1995 it merged with Fresh Food Link, and acquired a larger facility. In 1997 FOOD, Inc. became Community Food Bank, and we have continued to grow ever since.
In November of 2005 CFB kicked-off the Mobile Pantry Program. This program directly distributes fresh produce and healthy foods to children, families, families with infants, and the elderly. Eating a healthy diet is very important for the community, this is why our Mobile Pantry Program includes nutrition education in the food distribution.
