FROM THE WEBSITE:
CERT volunteers are contributing to the post-fire relief effort
by going into the neighborhoods handing out donated items like
rakes, shovels, brooms, and sifters. Prior to clean-up CERT
members cooked meals for firefighters and law enforcement still
fighting fires and manning roadblocks. North County Fire
Protection District spokesman, John Buchanan, said the volunteer
team has been particularly helpful in assisting fire victims,
the American Red Cross, and other emergency relief agencies.
The recent Santa Ana-driven fires, which forced nearly the entire
town of Fallbrook to evacuate, fanned across the community so fast
and became so dangerous that team members could not be officially
activated. Many team members themselves were subject to the
mandatory evacuation orders.
