An Organization of the Washington Faith Based Community
Serving Effectively When a Disaster Strikes
Our Vision: To be a network of faith-based groups committed to collaboratively maximizing the deployment of our respective resources when responding to Washington State disasters. OUR MISSION: 1. To help initiate and facilitate the formation, management and operation of local interfaith/long-term recovery organizations (LTROs). 2. To provide available financial, material, human and spiritual resources in responding to needs documented by Washington Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (WAVOAD) and/or a LTRO. 3. To partner with other WAVOAD members and other organizations plus local, state and federal disaster response programs, to provide assistance to all people and communities, particularly the most vulnerable. 4. To address emotional and spiritual trauma experienced by those impacted by a disaster and to provide and enhance the gifts of spiritual care. 5. To communicate key information and guidance among faith-based groups / individuals / communities before, during, and following a disaster event. 6. To engage in disaster-related education, preparation and mitigation efforts between disaster events. 7. While WIDRO member organizations may engage in first response and/or relief activities, WIDRO itself focuses on long-term recovery.

Washington Interfaith Disaster Recovery Organization (WIDRO) is a network of faith-based groups committed to collaboratively maximizing the deployment of our respective resources when responding to Washington State disasters.

WIDRO provides an essential and primary link for communicating key information and guidance among faith-based groups/individuals/communities following a disaster event. WIDRO also engages in disaster related education, preparation and mitigation efforts between disaster events.

WIDRO maintains a network of people and organizations from faith based and secular organizations willing to share information, experiences, resources and strategies.

During an active disaster event and recovery activities, WIDRO will contact network partners providing services within impacted area and assess their potential capacity to respond.

SERVICES PROVIDED DURING ACTIVE DISASTER RECOVERY ACTIVITIES:

1. Contact network partners within impacted areas to assess their potential capacity to respond.

2. Establish contact with other local faith organizations and community agencies within impacted areas when a network partner is not available.

3. Develop resources to enable local WIDRO partners, faith organizations and community agencies to establish, manage and maintain manage an interfaith/LTRO program where appropriate.

4. Coordinate activities with WAVOAD and provide financial resources when available and appropriate to respond to unmet needs documented by the WAVOAD Unmet Needs Committee.

5. Serve as a liaison between LTROs and national denominations/faith-based groups and other interested national organizations.

6. Serve as a reliable source of disaster response and recovery information and expertise.

7. Serve as a communication link among active response and recovery groups.
