2007 Winter Storm

While Yamhill County was not among the hardest hit, the city of Sheridan saw flooding in much of downtown, according to Capt. Ken Summers of the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office.

"They were hit hard, with a foot to 18 inches of water," he said. "(More than) 100 homes were damaged."

"We're still finding damaged homes," Eckhardt said, adding that his department requested that 40 Sheridan residents evacuate their homes, while about half that number left voluntarily, after the Yamhill River topped its banks and flooded the north side of the city.

The storm also washed out rural roads in the Carlton and the Lafayette area. At present, Poverty Bend, Jernsteadt, Burns and Kutch Roads remain closed, and a bridge on North Valley Road near Laughlin Road is closed, after high waters weakened its supports.

Statewide, 58,000 households lost power and more than 1,000 people were forced to evacuate. Three people lost their lives during the storm.
