About this facility
- Mission
- From the website: The Home Depot Foundation makes grants to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charities in the United States and to charitable organizations in Canada. Dedicated to creating healthy, livable communities through the integration of affordable housing built responsibly and the preservation and restoration of community trees. The Foundation supports the building of affordable, efficient and healthy homes and the planting of trees in our city parks, on tree-lined streets and in our own back yards. The Home Depot Foundation
This group has invested millions of dollars in communities across the country to, "help our neighbors of modest means live in homes they can afford to own and maintain in the long term, that provide safe, healthy environments and conserve energy, water and other natural resources."
Affordable Housing Program:
"The Home Depot Foundation defines an affordable home as one that people of limited means can afford to own, operate and maintain over the long-term. We consider not just the initial purchase price of a home, but whether the owner can afford the monthly mortgage payment, utility costs, transportation expense and up-keep. We believe that by helping families and individuals secure dependable, healthy, affordable housing, we are increasing their chances of success in all areas of their lives and are creating stable, strong communities."
The discussion on their website goes into detail about the importance of green building, with a list of goals for the program. The comprehensive approach includes consideration of "greening" to help renters and property managers.

Because the foundation is so focused on "greening" America, they have posted a number of brochures that help address answer the question, "can we green affordable housing?" It seems as the answer is yes, with the help of groups like this...!!!
