Notes
This POD acts as a true Point of Distribution. No retail, walk-up service, except for local medical emergencies. They call their volunteers when a truck is coming. The volunteers with their van/SUVs meet the truck, take the stuff to schools and other retail supply depots. The do NOT maintain an inventory or act as a walk-in resource.
Can get/rent pallet jack and/or forklift. Needs a couple days' notice.
Have a ton of volunteers. Seem VERY well coordinated. We have listed them as a warehouse because they do not do walk-in service. And because they focus on and do a brisk distribution business.
They've called each of the schools in Jackson, Harrison, Hancock and Stone counties. For schools that are working with them, they've got "approved" contacts from each school who pick up goods. They had some trouble with misc people pickuping up stuff and doing inappropriate things, like selling stuff. So they started a list of "approved" donations distributors. They've contacts all of the schools on the gulfcoast and serve mostly schools. They serve a few churches in their imediate area, as well.
This place seems VERY good. Also "Direct Relief" out of California.
The one thing that they consistently get for distribution is medical supplies. They are one of the few places that accepts Medicaid. They supply a list of clinics in the area.
Becky Baum from Jackson sends them trucks.
