Red Cross - Grant Wood Chapter Update 6/10/08

The Red Cross opened a shelter in Building A at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, 4261 Oakcrest Hill Road SE, Building A, this afternoon to offer food and housing to those displaced by flooding. The shelter also was accepting pet animals on an emergency basis.

The Iowa City Animal Shelter is tasked with both moving their current operations located in a flood prone area, and also caring for pets displaced by the flood on an emergency basis. Regular and emergency operations are moving to the Johnson County Fairgrounds area. Call the Animal Care office at 319-356-5295 to make arrangements in advance. Do not bring pets directly to the Fairgrounds.

The Iowa City Animal Care Center moved its 45 cats to the Johnson County Fairgrounds, and were prepared to move 14 dogs if Ralston Creek continued to rise, an animal control officer said.
