Kirkwood Animal Technology Center - Kirkwood Community College (Evacuated site for Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter)

From the 2008flood.org site:

The need is great for volunteers to care for the rescued pets of our community.
You can do something as simple as play with cats or clean cages.
There are over 100 cats alone (and many more dogs, some birds etc). Call the main Kirkwood number 319-398-5411 and they will get you to the Veterinary Education building and the people who are coordinating the whole operation. Usually the most need is in the morning (8-10 am) and evening (4-6 pm).

LTel 6/17/08 - Spoke to Luella at Kirkwood site:

The Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter is still evacuated and on site at the Kirkwood Animal Health Diamond V Bldg. They currently have a population of 500, with a capacity of 15,000. They are NOT sheltering livestock or equines. They have registered/approved foster homes covered. They cannot release pets to private citizens who want to volunteer to be fosters for evacuated pets.

The most current urgent need is monetary donations so they can go out and purchase supplies as they come up (See the Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter entry in the database for the Kirkwood Foundation drive).

Luella confirmed that there is always an ongoing and a current urgent need for blankets/towels.
