Group to help non-profits with flood expenses
The Gazette
CEDAR RAPIDS — The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation has launched an effort to fund local non-profits helping with flood recovery.
The Flood 2008 Fund was created Sunday to collect donations for relief, recovery and rebuilding and will work through non-profit organizations to provide basic assistance to individuals and families, said Karla Twedt-Ball, foundation director of programs.
The Agency Recovery Fund is a new component of the foundation's President's Fund, which includes emergency assistance for established and emerging grass-roots organizations.
Non-profit organizations in Linn County may apply for up to $5,000 toward flooding expenses.
Organizations unable to operate from their permanent locations for more than three weeks are eligible for up to $5,000.
Groups that can remain in their locations as they clean up are eligible for $2,000.
Groups may submit a one-page letter explaining the need, with an optional one-page budget estimating expenses. Applications will be taken through December, and decisions will be issued within a week of submission.
Financial donations may be made by individuals or businesses online at www.gcrcf.org or mailed to the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, 200 First St. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
