Red Cross Expands Emergency Assistance Into Letts and West Burlington

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Tuesday, June 24, 2008 - As residents of Muscatine County and Des Moines County move forward with their recovery from recent flooding, the American Red Cross is expanding services there.

Red Cross disaster workers will begin meeting with flood-impacted residents at new Service Delivery Sites at noon, Wednesday, June 25 at:

• West Burlington Arnold Junior/Senior High School, 408 W. Van Weiss Blvd., W. Burlington

• L&M Elementary School, 14506 170th Street, Letts

Starting Thursday, June 26, the sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

We urge flood-impacted residents of Oakville to go to the West Burlington site and residents of Fredonia to use the Letts site. This will help us to serve residents more quickly.

Emergency assistance may include providing the means to pay for groceries, clothing, medicine, tools or transportation. It may also help cover rent or minor repairs that will help people get back into their home more quickly.

Individuals or families who apply to the Red Cross for assistance must bring some form of identification showing their address, as proof that they lived in the area affected by the disaster.

Disaster victims, who because of age, physical difficulty, or similar reasons, cannot come to a Red Cross Service Center, may call 1-866-GET-INFO (438-4636) toll-free to discuss assistance.

The Red Cross will continue to adjust services across Iowa and in the Quad Cities area as needs change for shelters, meals, snacks, clean-up supplies, physical and mental health services and individual client assistance.
