Support for Mississippi Residents of Jackson County

Distribution Center

Camp Victor (a ministry of Lutheran Social Services Disaster
Response) receives donated supplies from across the country,
and provides them to those in need due to Hurricane Katrina at
the Distribution Center. After speaking to our on-site case
workers, we can supply food, water, hygiene items, and cleaning
supplies. Other items are available as we receive them, so if
you have other needs, come talk to us and we may be able to help
you. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

Our Distribution Center provides supplies to about one hundred
and fifty families per day, with an expenditure averaging $10,000
per day. If you are able to help with this cost, please see our
current needs page for information on donations.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The Christus Victor Lutheran Church of Ocean Springs began serving
as a distribution point for food, water and other needs within two
days after Hurricane Katrina made landfall on Aug. 29, 2005. Soon,
the church campus on U.S. 90 was bursting at the seams.

In December 2005, they secured a lease on the former factory and
began moving things into the facility even while massive renovations
were being carried out. In June 2006, the full distribution center
operations were moved to the current site.

Residents go through a caseworker to ascertain they meet certain
requirements, Fitzpatrick said, and they can then receive food,
cleaning supplies and personal care items.

From the WEBSITE 5/07:

Our Distribution Center Needs Your Help!

With the magnificent outpouring of donations from across America,
Christus Victor Disaster Response has been able to help close to
five hundred families a week. We have been told to anticipate the
demand for food and supplies from the Distribution Center to continue
for several years.

Over 29,000 families, more than 25% of the Mississippi Coast's
population, live in FEMA trailers. Ten thousand of the trailers
are in Jackson County, where Camp Victor is located. The recovery
on the Mississippi gulf coast is going to take a long, long time.

To maintain the Distribution Center, Christus Victor Disaster
Response needs fifty-two churches to commit to sending one
semi-trailer full of food and supplies during the next twelve
months (one semi for each week). Can your church be one of
those able to help us with this project?

We don't presume to tell you how to accomplish such a Herculean
task. We do know it can be done, because one small bible church
sent Camp Victor nine semi-trailer trucks over a four-month period.

Please consider our call for help. Study the Supply, Hygiene and
Food Items Needs and then call me or email me your response. I am
available on my cell phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week to
discuss this project with you.
