Leslie,
We have shut down in Iowa City. Cedar Rapids still has much to do in rebuilding but they are being very strict in who works there…ie you must have licenses (electrician, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) from the state of Iowa or pay to get them when you get here.

7/17/08 Email from Jen Nullmeyer/Calvary:
We are as full as can be with volunteers from Calvary Chapels around the nation so we can’t house anymore – sorry, I wish we could!
All volunteer coordination in Iowa City is being handled by The United Way. The phone number is 319)337-8657. They may have housing leads – they have also provided lunches for us on occasion when we couldn’t provide our own.
7/13/08 Email from Jen/Calvary:
We are housing people at the All Nations Baptist Church in Iowa City . The facility has showers and a fully equipped industrial kitchen. We’ve had about 70 volunteers work through us – from Florida to California and many places in between. Red Cross fed us for about 3 weeks but now they’ve pulled out of the area. We still have lots of food that was left from some relief organizations that have since come and gone. We’ve kept our effort to Iowa City and Coralville and we are still in the mucking out/gutting stage of clean up. Once the homes are down to frames, the owners still have to wait while the homes are bleached and dried. Homes that are that far in the process just wait until the paperwork gets done or the owner decides what to do.
At this point, we have not found a suitable candidate(s) to help rebuild so we do not need any building supplies. People are still finding out what their options are, so our need may change. We also have an abundant supply of masks, gloves, water, clean-up kits (flood buckets), and bleach/borax so we are in good shape!
