LIST OF NEEDS - FLOOD RECOVERY
Immediate and Long-Term Needs
Due to the damage Waypoint received in the basements of its facilities from the flood in June, we continue to work toward our efforts of re-occupying our buildings in August. We have many needs, both immediate and long-term, as well as monetary and in-kind assistance, that we have identified below. Thank you to so many community members who have already contacted us inquiring about the
needs of the families we serve during this time.

IMMEDIATE NEEDS

We are currently accepting the following donations only at the Waypoint Wise Buys Resale Shop at the corner of 4th Ave and 6th St in downtown Cedar Rapids during the following hours: T – Th, Noon – 6 p.m.; Fri., Noon – 3 p.m.

Until our facility is open, we are only accepting the following clothing items:

Monetary operations support to allow us to continue to operate our programs for families in need in our community.
Monetary flood recovery support to assist us with the clean-up expenses.
Madge Phillips Center:
Two new matching leather couches for the shelter living room.
Three sets of new commercial washers and dryers. We can get by with one set at re-opening in August but hope to purchase all three at the same time. The cost is approximately $5,000 per set. One donor has already donated one set.
Four transporting carts on wheels (for moving guests belongings and transporting donations)
Uptown Kids Child Development Center:
Large capacity washer and dryer
Teacher Resource Room:
Art supplies – construction paper, glue, markers, crayons, paints, etc.
Funding to purchase teacher resource books
Children’s books for infants through age five
LONG-TERM NEEDS:
Over the next year, Waypoint will have many needs as it strategically evaluates and plans for the rebuilding of its programs in its basements, including the following spaces:
Madge Phillips Center Day Program (clothes closet, computer resource area, kitchenette, offices and meeting rooms)
Waypoint Kitchen for preparing meals for child care services and shelter clients
Waypoint Gymnasium (large children’s play area)
Uptown Kids Preschool Classrooms
As we work through this process in the coming months and years, we will need monetary and in-kind support to rebuild these program areas so that we can continue to serve and help families in need.
