Mike Sanders
(COVINGTON)---St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of some type of effect from Hurricane Gustav.
"It's still too early to tell exactly how Gustav will impact St. Tammany," said Davis. "However, we must be prepared."
A Storm Information Line has been activated at 985.809.2300. Recorded information is available regarding sandbags, shelters, evacuation orders, and other pertinent information.
No shelters are open at this time. No evacuation has been ordered. Decisions regarding these possibilities will be made when the storm has taken a more definitive path.
• There is no reason to pre-register for the Special Needs Shelter at this time. Those with special needs and cannot evacuate due to health issues should monitor the media for shelter opening announcements.
