------------------------------------------------------
Trinity United Methodist Church of Gulfport has been deeply
involved in the recovery effort in the wake of Hurricane
Katrina. Since the storm we have served 35,000 meals,
provided lodging for over 4,644 volunteers, and our volunteers
from across the country have logged almost 500,000 hours.
What began as a cleanup effort has now transitioned into a
rebuilding effort. We have worked on rebuilding either in part
or completely 570 homes as of April 2007 and there will be many
more to come.
In this exciting rebuilding phase we use volunteer labor to
begin installing new insulation and sheetrock as well as
paint in homes damaged by the storm. As we get further into
the rebuilding process we need skilled labor who can do
plumbing, electrical, and finish carpentry work. Trinity
forms a partnership with homeowners to provide labor
assistance as well as building materials if necessary.
Additionally, Trinity UMC provides some financial support to
homeowners whose homes were damaged by flooding.
You can support this rebuilding effort through a monetary
donation or by volunteering to be a part of a work team.
Work teams will need to bring tools appropriate for the
work they will be engaged in (insulation, sheetrock, paint,
etc), although we have acquired a number of tools over the
past year.
