Hi Leslie,
Yes we're still here at the same location. In desperate need of supplies also. I'll email more details about what all we're doing when I get back to my computer.

Latest Blog entry 11/19/08:

DRT continues to be very busy here in Bridge City distributing supplies, cooking and serving meals, gutting out houses and in some cases we're beginning to install new sheetrock.

We still have people coming in to the center signing up for assistance for the 1st time. Many have been trying to make it on their own without getting assistance but they're realizing that they really need the help. Once they get here we have the opportunity to make them feel at home. Others are still just finding out by word of mouth that the assistance is available. We're also seeing that some are still sleeping in cars as well as tents. It's been very slow getting in FEMA houses. (they don't do trailers anymore, these are like extremely small shed type houses)

It's also been getting cold at night so we've been giving out quite a few blankets, warm clothing and electric heaters.

I know you're wondering what is still needed......... :)

Well.....we need YOU!! We are in desperate need of volunteers for all areas. Below is just a sample of some of the areas that we need volunteers for. Is this something you can do?? I'm sure you can find something on this list you can help with. :)

Pray (for those affected by the storm and for those ministering to them)

Working On Houses (gutting houses, disinfecting, installing sheetrock, electrical, plumbing, etc.)

Delivering Supplies to Houses

Distributing Supplies (filling orders and loading supplies in cars, etc.)

Interviewers for Distribution (helping to fill out forms, etc.)

Clothing (stocking, sorting, sizing, helping clients find sizes, etc.)

Cleaning (wash dishes, clean showers, restrooms, floors, etc.)

Computer Work (data Entry)

Greeters (Greet the community as they come in to the center, sit and talk with them, listen, etc.)

Bible Studies (talk to those coming in about a Bible Study and holding a study)

Remember.....this is just a sample of the things that need done.

Hi Leslie, We had quite a bit of food donated to us and they are letting us use a refrigerated trailer for 24 hours. Do you have any connections to a reefer here in the Bridge City area that would let us use a refrigerated trailer while we're working here?We need it tomorrow early afternoon.

Thanks So Much!! Laura Cremeans

E-Letter from COCC 9/20/08:

Greetings,

Many good things are happening in the Texas gulf coast areas following Hurricane Ike. Congregations are reaching out to their communities and touching lives for CHRIST. Some areas were damaged worse than others. We've been in contact with many congregations and are working with several.

THERE HAS BEEN MUCH DAMAGE AND DESTRUCTION!!

At the present time we are helping the Ridgewood Church of Christ in Beaumont, the 9th and Elm Church of Christ in Orange and the Bridge City Church of Christ in Bridge City.

As time goes on we will most likely be gradually working towards Galveston. As of now, residents are still not allowed to return to the island. We were contacted before the storm hit by the Corpus Christi Church of Christ and the Lake Jackson Church of Christ. However since Ike went further East, Corpus Christi is Praising God they are not in need of our services and after speaking to Hoss Ridgeway from Lake Jackson (we worked with him after the tornado in Lady Lake, FL) he said it isn't that bad there. They mainly had trees down and power out. They will need chain saw crews in but once the power is back on they should be good and he knew there were other areas that were in much more need.

It is usually the "head on" and right side of the storm that gets the worst damage and these 2 areas were on the left. If you like chain saw work, let me know I'll send you in the right direction, from Lake Jackson to Louisiana.

There are also many other volunteer opportunities:

Kitchen Help
Mucking Houses
Chain Saw Work
Demolition
Assessors
Distribution
Distributing tools from our tool trailer to volunteers, etc.
Office Help

THE BLOG HAS UPDATES AND PICTURES. http://www.disasterresponseteam.blogspot.com

SO MANY NEED HELP............ PLEASE HELP US HELP THEM

10:15 pm 9/15/08 - Email from Laura Creamans:

This location will just be housing volunteers. Our shower trailer will be arriving tonight. One tool trailer is here loaded with everything including several generators, chain saws, etc. for our volunteers. We have a 30' supply trailer here with new clothing, new shoes, care packs, etc. that will probably go to a different location. Our kitchen will be arriving tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm trying to get a laundry trailer in as well. We'll also be assessing other locations this week. Lake Jackson being one and Galveston was supposed to be the other.
