Cut yourself up cleaning? Chambers and Orange counties offer free tetanus shots

September, 22, 2008

Tetanus Shots

Health departments in Chambers and Orange counties are giving away Tetanus shots.

Sharon Burges, 62, the nurse for the Chambers County Health Department in Winnie, said the county is trying to give shots as they catch people coming back into the area.

Burges said the shots are necessary after any disaster occurs, as some people cut themselves in the clean up process.

"If you step on a rusty nail or whatever," Burges said, "you're creating an open barrier for that germ or bacteria. This is one of the preventative things we can do."

Burges said the health department had given out 206 shots as of Monday morning and have another supply of 250 coming in.
