Notes

When are volunteers needed there and for how long would you like them to stay?
It is confirmed that HOPE worldwide –Texas needs 125 volunteers in Houston from Friday, September 26 to Saturday, October 18. After the 18th, the location and/or housing is subject to change. Volunteers there can plan to stay anywhere from a few days to a week. We appreciate any time that volunteers can serve. Ideally 3 days or more is preferred. Registration is open daily from 6am-8am AND 8pm-10pm, please make plans accordingly in order to be at one of the registration times. Volunteers and staff will be working from around 8am to 8pm and will not be available during that time.

What type of work will the volunteers be doing?
The type of work is subject to change. As of now, volunteers will be assisting with house-to-house services in the disaster area. This will include canvassing, tree cutting, clearing of debris, etc.

Volunteers will need to cover their travel expenses, as well as their transportation from the Houston airport to the shelter (i.e. taking a taxi). For those of you arriving by car, please report directly to the shelter. Information on that location is below.

Upon arrival, expenses that will be covered include:

TRANSPORTATION to/from work sites outside of the shelter
FOOD while volunteering and at the work sites
HOUSING
HOPE worldwide t-shirt

Who can I contact in Texas?
After HOPE worldwide has received confirmation from you that you will be volunteering in Houston, the coordinators will contact the staff in Texas informing them of your dates. Please direct all questions in the following manner:

Contacts:
Call Jenni Clemens at (610) 254-8800 with any general questions; if she is unavailable at the time you call, please be patient as she will return your call as soon as possible.

Call Frank Dowd at (225) 288-6662 or Bryce Morita at 225-288-6980 with any urgent questions, or if Jenni Clemens is unavailable. You will also need to contact Frank or Bryce upon arrival to the site. One of them will be on site at the shelter to greet volunteers and provide direction regarding volunteer service in the area. Please limit calling them as they are extremely busy during this time.
