Iowa Valley Habitat implements Flood Recovery Grant Program
(IOWA CITY)---Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for homeowners to receive grants to use for winterization and utility reconstruction for floodaffected homes, Iowa Valley Habitat announced today.
These grants will stay with Habitat’s mission of providing safe, decent and affordable housing and will enable those with the greatest need to reconstruct any utilities or mechanical equipment, with the exception of appliances, or to winterize their home.
Grant amounts will range from $500 to $3,000 and will be dispersed to homeowners who live in Johnson, Cedar and Iowa Counties. Applicants must intend to move back to theflood-damaged home after it has been repaired.
Homeowners with the lowest income will receive first priority. Preference will also be given to those families who allocate the grant toward a tankless water heater, furnace replacement or winterization costs.
To apply, please go to www.iowavalleyhabitat.org and select the ‘Flood Relief’ tab.
Interested parties may also obtain an application by going to the IVHFH Office at 2401 Scott Blvd. SE in Iowa City. Any questions may be directed to IVHFH at (319) 337-8949. Applications must be received on or before September 30, 2008. Grant awards will be made by October 15, 2008.
Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity works with low-income, working families to build safe, decent, and affordable housing. Since the flooding in June, IVHFH has shifted focus from providing new home construction to ensuring existing housing is ‘safe, decent, and affordable.’
