9/26/09 GAVOAD ConCall Notes - 9/09 Floods:
•193 Total Residents Remain in Shelters (number as of 5:00PM 9/26/09 from GEMA sitrep)
• More than 300 Red Cross volunteers are providing stability and hope for families in this time of great chaos. To date, Red Cross has sheltered 458 people, served 6,105 meals, and distributed 1,156 clean-up and comfort kits. Volunteers are also providing emotional support and help with emergency medical needs.
• People in need of Red Cross assistance should call our Call Center at 404-870-4440, which is open from 8:15 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
• The Red Cross opened six shelters last Monday evening - five in metro Atlanta and one in North Georgia.
• Two shelters remain open: Cobb Civic Center (548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060 & Cherokee County Recreation & Parks Agency (South Annex) (17545 Main Street Bldg 200, Woodstock, GA, 30188

Brainerd Rec Shelter For Evacuees Staying Open

The American Red Cross shelter located at the Brainerd Recreation Center will be staying open until further notice due to the continuing need of flood evacuees, officials said late Thursday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, it was announced the center for evacuees would be closing at 6 p.m. and those currently residing at the shelter will be provided housing assistance.
