Notes

FM Humane Society asks:

“PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO PREPARE YOUR ANIMAL COMPANIONS for the flood”

As we are getting ready for a possible flood, FM Humane Society is asking pet owners not to forget to get their animals companions ready;

1. Please be prepared; make plans for your beloved animal companions

2. Find a safe place for your beloved animal companions ahead of time such as family and friends out of the area, hotels/motels that accept pets and if necessary make arrangements for their stay in a safe place away from the flooded areas ahead of time. The only local shelter in the area is the FM Humane Society and with only 9 dog kennels and 17 cat kennels, FM humane Society will not be able to board many animal companions if at all since they are already operating at full capacity

3. Make sure your pets are wearing up to date identification at all times

4. Similar to your family’s emergency supply kit, your pet will also need supplies for survival. Items to include in your kit; Food; at least three day supply of food Water; at least three days of water reserved just for your pet, kept in an airtight container Medicines and medical records: Collar with ID tag, harness and leash Current photos and description of your pets Pet carrier, kitty litter, Familiar items, i.e., favorite toys, treats or bedding

5. If you can leave early, do not wait for a mandatory evacuation order. An unnecessary trip is far better than waiting too long to leave safely with your pets.
