4529. Volunteers needed
by inkforrelief, 11/27/05 0:12 ET Dear NOLA Hurricane Fund Supporters, We want to extend a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. As you celebrate the holidays, we want you to join us in the city for the Tulane University Paint Rally for New Orleans Public Schools. This is a great opportunity to join the community and do some great work to bring back New Orleans. We need volunteers starting this Monday and continuing through May! You are invited to join us, beginning November 28th at 9 a.m. as we paint, landscape, clean and fix up New Orleans public schools - to give our children and teachers a badly needed fresh start. We will work Monday through Friday each week with larger (50+) volunteer days scheduled for Saturday, December 3rd and Saturday, December 10th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This effort will continue through May, as we work to get school facilities ready and shining for local children. Several schools are scheduled to open December 14th. We are starting at Alice Harte
Elementary School, 5300 Berkley Drive (corner of Eton & Berkley) in the Algiers neighborhood on the West Bank of New Orleans. As we complete one school, we will move on to the next. But we need you now! We need volunteers to scrape and paint classrooms and hallways, as well as landscape and do minor building repairs. We have basic supplies available, but welcome more, especially ladders, power tools and landscaping equipment. We can provide temporary housing for out-of-town volunteers. Just bring a sleeping bag and air mattress. To Volunteer:If you are interested, please contact Hamilton Simons-Jones (Tulane Community Service Director and NOLA Hurricane Fund Advisor) at dsimons@tulane.edu or (504) 858-9055. Please give your name, contact information, and dates you are available to volunteer in the city. You may also email the NOLA Hurricane Fund to volunteer at volunteer@nolahurricanefund.org. This year, your help is needed more than ever, as the city's public schools look
to recover from Hurricane Katrina and reopen to a bright, new future. All the best,Kevin LanderNOLA Hurricane Fund Co-Founder klander@nolahurricanefund.org This was emailed to me from the Tulane students. Lisa
