=====================
A Clay County family reaches out to a church more than 70 miles away to help flood victims in Breathitt County rebuild their lives.
Rousseau is one of the hardest hit communities.
When Teresa Ellis and her family saw what was happening a few counties away, she knew what she needed to do.
"I've got a lot of stuff and rather than yard sale, I would rather just go ahead and give it to someone who really needs it," said Ellis.
So she reached out to Full Gospel Deliverance Church in Jackson. The mission's volunteers drove to Manchester to pick up furniture, clothing and other household items The Ellis family wasn't using.
"We brought one small trailer with us and evidently we're going to have to come back because they are going to fill it us up with stuff," said church volunteer Joel Little.
"Anybody that I thought needed anything I would do without myself to help them pretty much," added Ellis.
Because The Ellis Family also knows what it's like to face disaster. Teresa Ellis says this is the time to give back.
"A couple of years ago we had a house fire and it was just unbelievable how many people came out to help us," said Ellis.
Not only is the church accepting private donations, but its working with area businesses to purchase discounted items like flooring and mattresses.
Little says the mission already spent thousands of dollars on new items to help flood victims in Rousseau. His church reaches out to people around the world.
"We just kind of stopped and put everything on hold that's going out of state to help our people at home," said Little.
He says that work is far from over.
Full Deliverance Gospel Church says its Outreach Mission needs monetary donations to keep up with amount of new items needed.
Send donations to Full Deliverance Gospel Church Outreach Mission, P.O. Box 856 Jackson, KY 41339. Make check payable to Missions Outreach and include "flood" on memo line. All gifts are tax deductible.
