Mission
St. Vincent Mission is committed to helping the people of the Appalachian Region with Home Repair, Food, Utility Assistance or Wheelchair Ramps. That is why your contribution is so important to help us keep doing the work we are doing. A donation of money, food, household items or good used clothing would be appreciated. Used clothing is accepted January - September. Summer clothing is especially needed. New Items are always welcome for each year's Christmas Store. A donation in memory of or in honor of friends and family is always appreciated. Please remember St. Vincent Mission in your will.
The Mission is a non-profit (501c3) corporation so your gifts are tax deductible.
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me. I was in prison and you came to visit me." (Matthew 25:35-36)

Notes

Emergency Needs Program ~

St. Vincent Mission gives Christian service to people by providing food, clothing and household items or assistance in reaching the proper agency where help can be found. Help with an unexpected car repair, loss of home to fire, rent, medical needs or increase utility cost may also be given.

Eligible applications who are physically able give community service hours to St. Vincent Mission in exchange for financial assistance.

Second Hand Store ~

St. Vincent's second hand store or "David Boutique" helps low-income families purchase used clothing or household items at a reasonable price.

Clothing and household items are provided free to families in crisis.

We especially need Household items, appliances and furniture

Used clothing is accepted January through September. Summer clothing is especially needed.

Home Repairs ~

The Home Repair mission serves several counties in our area. We have helped people add a room to take care of a family member, helped people rebuild who have had a fire or flood and built countless wheelchair ramps for those who could not normally have afforded it.

Volunteer Programs ~

The Mission hosts groups of college students, churches and individual volunteers from across the nation who come to repair substandard housing.

The work projects may consist of re-roofing a house, building a room addition, building a wheelchair ramp, or doing other home repairs for substandard housing. Volunteers usually raise the funds to finance their participation. Volunteers leave Eastern Kentucky with a better understanding of the positive and negative aspects of the region, the coal industry and the local people.

Scholarship Fund ~

St. Vincent Mission is committed to helping those who wish to get a higher education be able to get one. The Mission funds educationall scholarships to students who show financial need and the ability to maintain college level work.

Christmas Store ~

The Mission provides a Christmas Store each December for families who would otherwise have little or nothing for Christmas. Donations of new clothes, toys, tools, household items, personal care items, cleaning products laundry supplies and money are solicited throughout the year by the Mission staff for distribution in mid-December.

Invitations are sent to the most needy families in the area in early December. When the parents arrive to select Christmas gifts for their families they are asked to donate two dollars to the Mission. The second year a family participates in the Christmas program they are asked to take part in budget counseling.

Each subsequent year families are asked to give 12 hours of community service at St. Vincent Mission, a local school or other non-profit organization.

Boone Clinic ~

St. Vincent Mission is currently hosting GED classes through the Big Sandy Technical College intthe Boone Clinic building. For information on how to sign up for the GED classes please call: 606.886.2513.

Summer Youth Programs ~

St. Vincent Mission's volunteers lead Vacation Bible School at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Prestonsburg, KY each summer. The theme for 2009 is "Paul and The Underground Church" which will be held June 15th through 19th, 2009.
