GAVOAD 9/28/09 ConCall Notes:

Lutheran Social Service of GA (Lorraine Dorough)
•From Sunday update: Lutheran Services of Georgia is recruiting disaster response coordinators in each of its Lutheran congregations in the affected counties. The team of coordinators should be reasonably complete by Monday. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has sent a fundraising appeal throughout the southeast to its member chapters, and Lutheran Services of Georgia (LSG) has provided the same information to Lutheran congregations in Georgia. Thrivent has issued a challenge grant of $15,000 to supplement funds raised through this appeal that will be used through LSG in this disaster response effort.

Disaster Response Services
Focus
Providing relief and assistance, in the event of a natural disaster, has always been a priority ministry of the Lutheran Church. We are proud to participate in this effort with the assistance of Mr. Bob Tribble (Georgia).

Funding
When disaster occurs, it is customary for Lutheran churches to collect special offerings for use in the relief efforts. Specific items of need are also gathered, depending on the nature and location of the disaster. If you wish to assist, please contact your local congregation or call LSG at 404-875-0201. Your support will be greatly appreciated by those in dire need of our help.
