9/28/09 GAVOAD ConCall Notes:
4. FEMA Report (Ken Skalitzky & Susie Calvert)
• 1-800-621-FEMA & www.disasterassistance.gov to register for assistance
• Visit the FEMA website for news on DRCs and other info as the situation progresses.
• 8ooo registrations so far, $6 million in assistance. 49 max grants have been given out. Cobb has highest registrations so far at around 2400.
• VOAD agencies can help FEMA out by verifying assistance for families you have contact with. Only 22 SBA packets have been turned in – remind people to fill out there SBA packets as well in case they qualify for other assistance.
• FEMA would like to have a daily meal count from all agencies, churches, etc. who are feeding workers or individuals in the flooded areas. If meals are distributed to you from Red Cross, Southern Baptist, or another agency, please let us know that also. Agencies are doing a great job and we would like for all to know the services that you are contributing. You may email or call me. Thanks for the help.
Susie Calvert, Voluntary Agency Specialist (571-340-1936, suzanne.calvert@dhs.gov)
• Keep track of your volunteer hours in case of match opportunity for county EMA through public assistance. Report your volunteer hours to GEMA (and local EMA if you can do a county-by-county breakdown) weekly.
• No need to wait on pulling out drywall if its wet, just make sure damage is documented (addressed by Ken, Dan @ GEMA, & Bob).
