Greetings,
We're writing to give you an update on the flooding situation in Georgia. We're sure you've all been hearing about the flooding situation in Georgia. It was a flood that has affected thousands filling their homes with muck and many with raw sewage. many of these were flooded 6' - 8'. Look around your house at the top of the walls near the ceilings. Now just imagine everything below that level being flooded....ruined.....EVERYTHING. As with most floods, many had no insurance because they weren't in a flood zone. Many couldn't get flood insurance even if they wanted to. Now imagine all those things in your house below the ceiling being gone!! you have no flood insurance....NO means of replacing everything......many can't work because businesses were flooded as well.......and.....on top of all this........You still have to make payments on a house you can't live in. PLEASE help us help these churches.
The Churches of Christ Disaster Response Team (DRT) will be working with the churches in the Austell, Powder Springs and Douglasville areas of Georgia reach out to their members and community teaching the Love of JESUS by example. These are the 3 worst hit areas from this flood. We Need Your Help! We will send out another email as soon as we are set up and ready to accept volunteers (hopefully within a couple of days) But until then, below are a few things you can do to help those in such need.
1. PRAY-- For the flood survivors as well as all those ministering to them.
2. VOLUNTEER-- Make plans now to come help DRT and the local congregations reach out to the members and community affected. We will need you immediately after we set up so next week is not to early to sign up. Volunteers will be needed in all areas from cleaning out houses to distribution of supplies to cooking to onsite office work.....the list goes on and on. Please sign up on the DRT website. http://www.churchesofchristdrt.org
3. DONATE - As always in a disaster, FUNDING is desperately needed! DRT helps provide building material to those without/under insured as well as purchasing food that is prepared for the community and volunteers. DRT also helps to provide new clothing and general household items needed.
Our funding is down considerably since the major relief effort DRT provided following Hurricane Ike in Bridge City, Texas. Please prayerfully consider giving whether It's $25. or $1,000. Any amount is needed and will be put to good use helping those who've been affected by disaster.
