North Hancock County Food Pantry

Food Pantry
next focus of BMKP (Buckmont Katrina Project site)

We are actively working on building a new Hancock County
Food Pantry to replace the lost building that was destroyed
by Hurricane Katrina.

Local leaders asked us to consider the project after our
successful campaign to raise funds and build the Hancock
County Child Development Center, the first public building
to be built after the storm.

We are planning a new 3,000-square-foot structure for the
Hancock County Food Pantry, the only full-time food pantry
in the county. It was founded in 1986 and is staffed entirely
by volunteers. The pantry is currently working out of temporary
facilities.

From the Hope Haven Web Site:

Our 2000 square foot recreational/storage building
adjacent to our home stood up well in the flood and
to the winds and our board of directors welcomed
another vital non profit organization into the Hope
Haven complex. In February 2006, the Hancock County
Food Pantry, who lost their building in the Hurricane
as well, moved into the old recreational building and
began serving the community with free food and other
donated items. The food pantry is serving over 1,000
families every month, who have no other place to go
for help, and we are proud of being able to help in
this effort.
