Who We Are
The IncidentNews website provides publicly available information related to oil and hazardous material spills, both current and historical. It is developed and maintained by NOAA's Emergency Response Division (ERD), which is part of NOAA's Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R). ERD was formerly known as the Hazardous Materials Response Division, or HAZMAT. ERD's job is to facilitate spill prevention, preparedness, response, and restoration at national and local levels. Over the last 25 years, ERD has responded to virtually every major marine spill in the U.S. ERD's expertise is frequently sought internationally as well. For example, ERD spill scientists were extensively involved in the response to the 1991 oil spills in the Persian/Arabian Gulf. - Service
