- Restoring hope - Rebuilding lives ULM Relief arrived in Biloxi September 5, 2005 with a small band of volunteers and a passion to help wherever they could. A FEMA P.O.D. (Point of Distribution) was unmanned in Biloxi and thus began the relief efforts to assist and rescue a needy people. Since that time, volunteers have come from across the United States, Canada and other countries, providing more than $34,000,000 in relief supplies from private donations. The ULM Relief network of volunteers have accrued more than 130,000 hours: Opening seven POD’s in four Cities removing debris from more than 1100 homes, remodeling more than 100 homes, Relocating more than 1000 people to seven different States cooking and serving more than 450,000 meals and distributing more than 950 tractor trailers of goods While forming strategic alliances, ULM Relief has teamed with numerous long term recovery specialists, funding agencies, local stakeholders & government officials, FEMA, and faith-based disaster relief agencies. These alliances have made the effort stronger and created not only “American Community” relationships, but have accomplished a gestalt type of atmosphere thereby accomplishing more than if done independently. Sustainable Economic Development Platforms and Wealth Creation for disaster recovery is one of the original tenets of ULM Relief. Whether in the United States or on the continent of Africa, the ULM Relief Team has enhanced living conditions, provided housing, established schools, built hospitals, developed and constructed orphanages and built entire cities, towns and villages.
