Mission
Pine Ridge Reservation ---- home to the Oglala Sioux Tribe -- estimated population of close to 40,000. The reservation is large, and its needs immense.
Unemployment is over 80%. Since it is impossible to provide assistance to individual families on the reservation from a distance and do it equitably, the Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation website focuses on specific needs of the many schools and social service organizations such as shelters, children's organizations, and clinics physically located on the reservation. Organizations are understaffed, under funded. Please do not underestimate the importance of a small donation. Your contribution, sent directly to a reservation organization--even if only a single pair of socks for a child who has none--makes a huge impact when combined with many others. The reservation organizations' needs are many and change constantly so your donations can take many forms, from school, sewing, crafts, sporting, baby, and office supplies, to toiletries, clothing, Christmas gifts, holiday items, bed, bath and kitchen linens, cold weather gear, crayons and more. FoPRR is in touch with the Pine Ridge Reservation organizations that we support, however, FoPRR is not located on the reservation and is not affiliated with the Oglala Lakota tribe. If you have questions about donating, please ask.

Please do not request information related to locating friends or relatives, penpals for you, your children or a school classroom, assistance for individuals or families, tribal status, tribal functions, medical records, genealogical research, translations, hemp, political issues, prisoners, spirituality, employment, or travel.

Please note: This e-mail will reach the FoPRR website owner only and no one on Pine Ridge Reservation. Messages cannot be forwarded to anyone on the reservation.

A Note About Shipping: If you should order something from Amazon and have it shipped to a reservation post office box, you may get an e-mail from them stating that your package wasn't able to be delivered to the recipient by the post office but that it is waiting at the post office to be picked up. Please DISREGARD it.

No need to contact me about it, as the post offices on the reservation never even attempt delivery in the first place (the shipping address IS a post office box) because there is no mail delivery whatsoever anywhere on the reservation.

All of the schools and organizations we send donations to go to the post office regularly to pick up their mail. It's the only way they get it and you can be assured they are receiving donations shipped via Amazon to the post office boxes.

On that note, since UPS and FedEx will not ship to a P.O. box address and there are no street names on the reservation, each school and organization has a fictional street address. We use these to provide to UPS and FedEx on our end, which they accept, but the UPS and FedEx drivers on the reservation end know where all of the organizations are physically located so all of the boxes get delivered with no problem.

Please be sure to use the P.O. box addresses only if shipping via the post office, and the "street" addresses only if shipping via UPS and FedEx. Thanks!
